Prison officer accused of supplying inmate with drugs at HMP Shotts

A prison officer will stand trial trial of supplying an inmate with drugs at HMP Shotts.

Heather McKenzie, 30, allegedly gave Zak Malavin cocaine at the maximum-security prison in North Lanarkshire between May 1, 2019 and October 28, 2020.

Further charges claim that McKenzie also supplied class C drugs pregabalin, zopiclone, trenbolone and testosterone to Malavin and others at the same time and place.

McKenzie is also said to have been concerned in the supply of drugs from her home in Lanark, South Lanarkshire.

A final charge alleges that the suspended officer gave Malavin a mobile phone and a sim card at HMP Shotts between December 1, 2019 and October 27, 2020.

The charge states McKenzie did this “knowing Zak Malavin to be a prisoner at HMP Shotts”.

McKenzie pleaded not guilty today to the charges at the High Court in Glasgow.

The trial was fixed for March next year by Judge Lord Beckett.
